The Rules of Cowboy Dueling

Distance

Both competitors will face each other in a 21 foot duel.

Boundaries

Each competitor will be required to remain inside a 3 foot hula-hoop.  If you step out of bounds during the 3-second round, you will incur a penalty.

Guns

Each competitor will be provided with a .38 special revolver (modified so a live round cannot be loaded) and 6 rounds of PopSafe blanks.

Loading

Our Gunfight Marshals will load each weapon and provide it to competitors once the match is about to begin.  Competitors may not load, unload, or otherwise manipulate the firearm themselves. All actions will be conducted by the Gunfight Marshal to ensure complete safety.

Penalties

There are 4 penalties that will result in a point being awarded to your opponent:

  1. Stepping outside the hula-hoop
  2. Firing before the opening bell
  3. Firing after the opening bell
  4. Firing more than once during a round

Draw Position

Competitors may draw from the “Law Man Ready” position (hand on the gun).

Scoring

A head balloon is worth 2 points.  A belly balloon is worth 1 point.  If both a head balloon and a belly balloon are popped, it will be scored as 1 point (what we call a stray shot).  The competitor with the highest points at the end of 6 rounds is the winner.

Ties

In the event of a tie, the match will move to sudden death where one shot will be loaded in each gun and the winner of that round will be determined the winner.

Safety Violations

Any competitor not conducting themselves in a safe manner when handling a firearm will be immediately disqualified and ejected from competing.  We take safety seriously and you must as well.

Alcohol

Texas State Law prohibits individuals with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08%.  We do breathalize, so our advice is wait to consume alcohol until after you compete.

Trigger Word

Can you talk trash and back it up?

Trigger Word is an exciting new game of wits and skill.  Up to 10 people compete in a “last man standing” game where the Agitator and the Defender compete in a duel of words that leads to a gunfight.  When will the Agitator take his aggression to the next level? Will you be fast enough to defeat him?  If you are the last man standing, you take home a pot up to $750!

No! There are no projectiles that can hurt you. You may feel something from spent powder but with long sleeves and gloves you won’t feel much of anything.

First a cowboy hat is required! We have some of you don’t have your own. We provide all safety equipment (full-face protection) and guns. However, you need to wear long sleeves, pants, and close-toed shoes.

No! Texas Law prohibits operating a firearm with a blood alcohol over 0.08%. We have breathalyzers to help you answer that question and stay within the law. Texas doesn’t play!
